St Oswald’s Way: Day 6 – Bamburgh to Fenwick

Dec 19, 2015Apr 25, 2019 / David Marsden / 13 Comments

(24th March 2014 - 12 miles + 1 mile off route) Studying the map, and between mouthfuls of a 'Four In A Bed' winning breakfast, we discussed the day's walk.  Neither Jim, Tracy nor I fancied going back down the road into Bamburgh and plumped instead on cutting across country on a lane through sheep … Continue reading St Oswald’s Way: Day 6 – Bamburgh to Fenwick

St Oswald’s Way: Day 5 – Embleton to Bamburgh

Dec 2, 2015Apr 25, 2019 / David Marsden / 11 Comments

(23rd March 2014 - 11 miles including 2 miles off-route) After an all right breakfast Jim, Tracy and I left The Blue Bell Inn - for ever - and set out on our short day's walk to Bamburgh. We passed quickly, quietly, hobbit-like through little Embleton, crossed the local golf course and returned to the … Continue reading St Oswald’s Way: Day 5 – Embleton to Bamburgh

St Oswald’s Way: Day 4 – Warkworth to Embleton

Oct 31, 2015Apr 25, 2019 / David Marsden / 9 Comments

(22nd March 2014 - 17 miles + 2 miles off route) Westrigg was one of the best B&B's on my walk (with some stiff competition) and served up such a damn fine breakfast that we happy three couldn't stop eating.  When we finally did and groaned, "Enough already," struggled to our feet, waddled out of … Continue reading St Oswald’s Way: Day 4 – Warkworth to Embleton

St Oswald’s Way: Day 3 – Rothbury to Warkworth

Sep 5, 2015Jun 10, 2019 / David Marsden / 16 Comments

(21st March 2014 - 18 miles) I had a spring in my step as I left 'The Queen's Head,' paused for a little window-shopping, picked up some lunch and crossed the bridge over the River Coquet. On a warm, sunny morning, I had the fine prospect of several hours riverside walking.  And at day's end, … Continue reading St Oswald’s Way: Day 3 – Rothbury to Warkworth

St Oswald’s Way: Day 2 – Kirkwhelpington to Rothbury

May 24, 2015Apr 24, 2019 / David Marsden / 6 Comments

(20th March 2014 - 15 miles) Today would be a sun-no-show.  There were only three sunless days on my 220-mile trail but, with a sorry lack of prescience, I worried when I awoke to one that the rest of my holiday would be overcast and rainy.  I needn't have: after today, fine weather returned.  … Continue reading St Oswald’s Way: Day 2 – Kirkwhelpington to Rothbury

A Choice of Paths

Covid hasn’t gifted us the best of years but, for me, it had one good outcome. It nudged me in a new direction. (It also sent darkness, doubt and isolated me from family and friends but hey, let’s concentrate on a positive). Two and a half years ago, I was a full-time professional gardener in […]

Missing the Lakes this year (thanks Covid). Especially a mountain summit above clouds. Me, having a moment a few years back. #blencathra #lakedistrict #lakes #cloudinversion #cumbria #hiking #mountains
Noooo. No! Just. Stop. It. That's enough. Stop growing. Three?!? I don't want three new leaves. Three?!? You're way too big already. Enough. Where's me scissors? #conversationswithhouseplants #monstera #houseplants #houseplantsofinstagram

After only a 6 month wait, we have an allotment. Please. Don't cheer. @ladiestoilet_11 (left), @jimpilston (centre) and me (work it out) are the proud carers of a small plot of weeds - with a view. We might a) take along some deckchairs or old bits of carpet and drink cider, or b) weed, mulch, grow and feast. We'll make a decision soon. #allotment #allotmentlife #growyourownfood #gardening #weedporn #weeding #stroud #gloucestershire
